Banana Recipes for What is a Line

 Breakfast

 

By just adding a mashed banana to a simple pancake recipe and you have a flavorful breakfast.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 2 minutes

Total Time: 22 minutes

Ingredients:

• 1 cup flour
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 egg
• 1 cup milk
• 2 tablespoons oil
• 1 ripe banana, mashed

Preparation:

In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients with wire whisk. In a small bowl, with an electric mixer, combine eggs, milk and oil. Slowly add wet ingredients and mashed banana to dry ingredients. Hand mix only until large lumps are gone.

Heat griddle or frying pan. Grease pan lightly. Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup to form each pancake in pan. Bake until bubbles appear and edges are brown. Flip pancakes and cook for a minute or so longer. 

Brunch

Total time: 1 hour      Prep time: 15 min  

2 bananas (ripe) 1 egg 1 cup buttermilk 1 cup brown sugar 1 tsp vanilla

2 cups flour 112 tsps baking powder 34 tsp baking soda 12 tsp salt

1	In a medium bowl, mash the bananas.
2	Add the egg, buttermilk, brown sugar and vanilla.
3	Whisk all together until egg yoke has broken and mixture is well mixed.
4	In a large bowl, measure the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
5	Whisk all together until thoroughly mixed.
6	Stir in the liquid ingredients just until all dry ingredients are moistened. There will be lumps.
7	Pour batter into a greased loaf pan (9" x 5").
8	Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
9	Test for doneness with toothpick inserted into middle of loaf - it should come out clean.
10	Cool loaf in pan for 5 minutes, then carefully turn out onto a rack to cool thoroughly.
11	Can be stored at room temperature if you're going to eat it up within a couple of days.
12	Otherwise store in the fridge.

Lunch

  Green Banana Salad

3 green (unripe) bananas, peeled
2 med. carrots, shredded
1 sm. cucumber, sliced
1 avocado, cubed
Vinaigrette Dressing (recipe follows)
2 c. water
1 tsp. salt
1 med. tomato, chopped
1 stalk celery, sliced

Heat bananas, water and salt to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer until bananas are tender, about 5 minutes. Drain and cool. Cut bananas crosswise into 1/2" slices. Toss bananas and remaining ingredients with Vinaigrette Dressing. 8 servings.

VINAIGRETTE DRESSING:

1/3 c. olive or vegetable oil
1 clove garlic, chopped
1/2 tsp. prepared dark mustard
2 tbsp. wine vinegar
1 tsp. salt
Dash of pepper

Snack

Prep Time:

Ingredients

• Curry powder
• 1/4cup Mayonaise
• 1/4 Thick cream
• 4 Ripe Bananas Method

• Mix mayonaise & cream together, then add curry powder to personal taste.
• Slice bananas into rings & add to mayonaise mix. Gently fold together.
• Serves 2.

Tea 

Ingredients

1. 2 large bananas, cut into pieces
2. 2 tablespoons curry powder
3. 2 teaspoons ground coriander
4. 1 teaspoon dry mustard
5. 3 tablespoons butter
6. Grated zest of 1 lime
7. 4 teaspoons lime juice
8. 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
9. 1/2 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper
10. 3/4 cup water, more if needed
11. 4 bone-in chicken breasts (about 2 1/4 pounds in all), skin removed
12. 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley (optional)

1. Heat the oven to 450°. In a food processor or blender, puree the bananas, curry powder, coriander, dry mustard, butter, lime zest, lime juice, salt, pepper, and 1/4 cup of the water.
2. Make a few deep cuts in each chicken breast and put the breasts in a roasting pan. Pour the curry sauce over the chicken, making sure the sauce gets into the cuts. Roast in the bottom third of the oven until the chicken is just done, about 20 minutes.
3. Remove the roasting pan from the oven and remove the chicken breasts from the pan. There should be plenty of thick sauce in the bottom of the pan. Set the pan over moderate heat and whisk in the remaining 1/2 cup water. Continue to whisk until the sauce is heated through, adding more water if you want a thinner sauce. Serve the chicken breasts with the sauce over them. Sprinkle with parsley if you like.

Serve With Be sure to have plenty of rice ready to catch the generous quantity of sauce. 

 

Pudding

Ingredients

For the coconut chocolate sauce

• 400 ml canned coconut milk
• 60 g light muscovado sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 200 g dark chocolate, chopped

For the banana split

• 4 small bananas, split in half lengthways
• 40 g unsalted butter, cubed
• 25 g caster sugar
• 4-8 scoops scoops vanilla or coconut ice cream
• shredded coconut, or toasted almond flakes, for sprinkling 

1. For the coconut chocolate sauce: put the coconut milk, sugar, vanilla and dark chocolate in a small saucepan over a medium heat and stir until the chocolate and sugar dissolve.

2. Use the sauce while warm or store in the fridge in an airtight container and melt over a low heat prior to use.

3. For the banana split: heat the grill to medium. Split the bananas in half lengthways and put them on a baking tray. Dot with the cubes of butter and sprinkle with caster sugar. Grill until caramelised. Alternatively put the bananas in a heavy based frying pan along with the butter and sugar and cook on a high heat until caramelized on one side.

4. Top the bananas with the ice cream, coconut chocolate sauce and shredded coconut or almonds, then serve.  

 

Drink

Ingredients

• 1 banana, peeled and sliced
• ½ pint milk
• handful of ice
• 1-2 tbsp honey

Preparation method

1. Place the banana, milk, ice and honey in a blender and then blend until smooth.
   
2. Transfer to a serving glass and serve at once.

Color Meanings

  Orange

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

To the human eye, orange is a very hot color, so it gives the sensation of heat. Nevertheless, orange is not as aggressive as red. Orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an invigorating effect, and stimulates mental activity. It is highly accepted among young people. As a citrus color, orange is associated with healthy food and stimulates appetite. Orange is the color of fall and harvest. In heraldry, orange is symbolic of strength and endurance.

Orange has very high visibility, so you can use it to catch attention and highlight the most important elements of your design. Orange is very effective for promoting food products and toys.

Dark orange can mean deceit and distrust.
Red-orange corresponds to desire, sexual passion, pleasure, domination, aggression, and thirst for action.
Gold evokes the feeling of prestige. The meaning of gold is illumination, wisdom, and wealth. Gold often symbolizes high quality.

  Green

Green is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Green has strong emotional correspondence with safety. Dark green is also commonly associated with money.

Green has great healing power. It is the most restful color for the human eye; it can improve vision. Green suggests stability and endurance. Sometimes green denotes lack of experience; for example, a 'greenhorn' is a novice. In heraldry, green indicates growth and hope. Green, as opposed to red, means safety; it is the color of free passage in road traffic.

Use green to indicate safety when advertising drugs and medical products. Green is directly related to nature, so you can use it to promote 'green' products. Dull, darker green is commonly associated with money, the financial world, banking, and Wall Street.

Dark green is associated with ambition, greed, and jealousy.
Yellow-green can indicate sickness, cowardice, discord, and jealousy.
Aqua is associated with emotional healing and protection.
Olive green is the traditional color of peace.

  Blue

Blue is the color of the sky and sea. It is often associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven.

Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect. Blue is strongly associated with tranquility and calmness. In heraldry, blue is used to symbolize piety and sincerity.

You can use blue to promote products and services related to cleanliness (water purification filters, cleaning liquids, vodka), air and sky (airlines, airports, air conditioners), water and sea (sea voyages, mineral water). As opposed to emotionally warm colors like red, orange, and yellow; blue is linked to consciousness and intellect. Use blue to suggest precision when promoting high-tech products.

Blue is a masculine color; according to studies, it is highly accepted among males. Dark blue is associated with depth, expertise, and stability; it is a preferred color for corporate America.

Avoid using blue when promoting food and cooking, because blue suppresses appetite. When used together with warm colors like yellow or red, blue can create high-impact, vibrant designs; for example, blue-yellow-red is a perfect color scheme for a superhero.

Light blue is associated with health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness.
Dark blue represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness.

  Purple

Purple combines the stability of blue and the energy of red. Purple is associated with royalty. It symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It conveys wealth and extravagance. Purple is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.

According to surveys, almost 75 percent of pre-adolescent children prefer purple to all other colors. Purple is a very rare color in nature; some people consider it to be artificial.

Light purple is a good choice for a feminine design. You can use bright purple when promoting children's products.

Light purple evokes romantic and nostalgic feelings.
Dark purple evokes gloom and sad feelings. It can cause frustration.

  White

White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the color of perfection.

White means safety, purity, and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning. In heraldry, white depicts faith and purity.

In advertising, white is associated with coolness and cleanliness because it's the color of snow. You can use white to suggest simplicity in high-tech products. White is an appropriate color for charitable organizations; angels are usually imagined wearing white clothes. White is associated with hospitals, doctors, and sterility, so you can use white to suggest safety when promoting medical products. White is often associated with low weight, low-fat food, and dairy products.

PIXAR STAMPS

Since 1986, Pixar films have stretched the boundaries of our imagination with stories about unlikely heroes who explore the bonds of friendship and family. Now some of those heroes are the subjects of colorful new ‘Send a Hello’ stamps that encourage people to connect with loved ones through the mail.
The ‘Send a Hello’ stamps, which go on sale Aug. 19, are a natural outgrowth of the Art of Disney stamp series issued between 2004 and 2008. Originally intended as a series of three annual issuances depicting friendship, celebration, and romance, the Art of Disney stamps proved so popular that the Postal Service expanded the series to include issuances in 2007 and 2008 to celebrate imagination and magic.
Based on that success, the Postal Service was eager to work with the Walt Disney Company again, choosing to explore the Disney*Pixar films, which offer exciting, contemporary characters and strong themes involving family and friends.
This pane of 20 stamps includes five different designs featuring Pixar characters: Lightning McQueen and Mater from Cars (2006); Remy the rat and Linguini from Ratatouille (2007); Buzz Lightyear and two of the green, three-eyed aliens from Toy Story (1995); Carl Fredricksen and Dug from Up (2009); and the robot WALL*E from WALL*E (2008).
Since the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature was introduced in 2001, all seven Pixar films released since that time have been nominated and five of the seven have won, including Ratatouille,WALL*E and Up.

 I love these pixar stamps, they are eye catching and definite collectables

Postage Stamp Research

After doing a few initial Ideas I have decided to have another look for stamp designs to see what colour schemes work and what style works best.

 Germany. In 1925, Germany issued a stamp displaying a bold Art Deco "traffic wheel"^[9] or traffic circle, in commemoration of the Deutsche Verkehrausstellung München 1925 or Munich Transport Exhibition of 1925.^[10] In 1934, it issued another striking image, two hands grasping a piece of coal, referring to the Saar Plebiscite held the following year which would determine that the coal-rich region would reunite with Germany. 

I like the use of one colour here. The stamps really stand out. They have a really crisp image. I like this style of stamp simple but effective.

History of the Stamp

Before the use of adhesive paper stamps, letters were hand stamped or postmarked with ink. Postmarks were the invention of Henry Bishop and were at first called 'Bishop mark' after the inventor. Bishop marks were first used in 1661 at the London General Post Office. They marked the day and month the letter was mailed.

The First Modern Postage Stamp - Penny Black

The first issued postage stamp began with Great Britain's Penny Post. On May 6, 1840, the British Penny Black stamp was released. The Penny Black was engraved the profile of Queen Victoria's head, who remained on all British stamps for the next sixty years. Rowland Hill created the first stamp.

Rowland Hill Invents Adhesive Postage Stamps

A schoolmaster from England, Rowland Hill invented the adhesive postage stamp in 1837, an act for which he was knighted. Through his efforts the first stamp in the world was issued in England in 1840. Roland Hill also created the first uniform postage rates that were based on weight rather than size. Hill's stamps made the prepayment of mail postage possible and practical.

I really like the style of design on these Czech stamps. they use simple imagery and nice colours
the stamps are eye catching and actually look appealing.

Eco Friendly Products

As we are using far too much of the worlds materials. Recycling is something that needs to be considered I found loads of products made from recycled items by the ecoists, the work they produce is of the highest quality and is really quite inspirational.  www.ecoist.com.

I could look at printing on recycled materials. Such as old brown paper bags or packaging. As long as the material isn't too thick this should not be a problem. It would look quite nice to get the stamps screen printed.

These are all things I need to take into consider when designing my stamps. I think transport could be a nice thing to look at as this is something that effects everyone. Getting around is a common issue and getting people to do more exercise and use less fuel consuming vehicles could be a nice starting point.

Save energy on transport

• Whenever possible, walk, bike, car pool, or use mass transit. Every gallon of gasoline you save avoids 22 pounds of CO2 emissions. If your car gets 25 miles per gallon, for example, and you reduce your annual driving from 12,000 to 10,000 miles, you'll save 1800 pounds of CO2.

Reduce, reuse, recycle

Reduce the amount of waste you produce by buying minimally packaged goods, choosing reusable products over disposable ones, and recycling. For every pound of waste you eliminate or recycle, you save energy and reduce emissions of CO2 by at least 1 pound. Cutting down your garbage by half of one large trash bag per week saves at least 1100 pounds of CO2 per year. Making products with recycled materials, instead of from scratch with raw materials, uses 30 to 55% less for paper products, 33% less for glass, and a whopping 90% less for aluminum.

If your car has an air conditioner, make sure its coolant is recovered and recycled whenever you have it serviced. In the United States, leakage from auto air conditioners is the largest single source of emissions of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which damage the ozone layer as well as add to global warming. The CFCs from one auto air conditioner can add the equivalent of 4800 pounds of CO2 emissions per year.

Home Improvements.

When you plan major home improvements, consider some of these energy saving investments. They save money in the long run, and their CO2 savings can often be measured in tons per year.

Insulate your walls and ceilings. This can save 20 to 30 percent of home heating bills and reduce CO2 emissions by 140 to 2100 pounds per year. If you live in a colder climate, consider superinsulating. That can save 5.5 tons of CO2 per year for gas-heated homes, 8.8 tons per year for oil heat, or 23 tons per year for electric heat. (If you have electric heat, you might also consider switching to more efficient gas or oil.)

Modernize your windows. Replacing all your ordinary windows with argon filled, double-glazed windows saves 2.4 tons of CO2 per year for homes with gas heat, 3.9 tons of oil heat, and 9.8 tons for electric heat.

Plant shade trees and paint your house a light color if you live in a warm climate, or a dark color if you live in a cold climate. Reductions in energy use resulting from shade trees and appropriate painting can save up to 2.4 tons of CO2 emissions per year. (Each tree also directly absorbs about 25 pounds of CO2 from the air annually.)

 Business and community

Work with your employer to implement these and other energy-efficiency and waste-reduction measures in your office or workplace. Form or join local citizens' groups and work with local government officials to see that these measures are taken in schools and public buildings.

Keep track of the environmental voting records of candidates for office. Stay abreast of environmental issues on both local and national levels, and write or call your elected officials to express your concerns about energy efficiency and global warming.
