Colour Experimentation
In this colour theory session we experimented with cut up pieces of card. We each chose a colour then took a bright and dull version. We looked at how the colours changed on different backgrounds and how the colours work together.
Bright
Dull
This newsprint back ground makes the green look quite vibrant
The right side is not as strong as the left, the table takes some of the green away
The colour is allot stronger on the white back ground and seems darker on the right
The bright green stand out more here
The left background cancels out some of the green I feel, the bright green looks allot duller on the left
Different Back Grounds

Introducing a New Colour
I added a bright and dull orange to my mix of colours to see how these contrasted with each other
The News print background makes the bright colours duller and the dull colours more vibrant.
Overlaying
The orange stands out here, contrasts well against the green
The bright orange is strongest amongst the dull colours
Overlapping makes the bright orange weaker
Change in tone and Hue
Adding Contrasting Colours
Next I looked at how the colours work against contrasting colours.
The blue stands out most here. The green on the right is very vibrant compared to the left
Dull and Bright Strips
The black background is a huge contrast which makes the colours stand out significantly more than on the white background
The right side definitely increases how much the green stands out
Introducing Objects
I then introduced objects to see if it had the same effect.
The frog looks more vibrant on the right hand side
This dull egg shell carton takes away the brightness from the green on the right
The frog stands out most against the black
The black makes all the colours stand out much more than the white
Colour Contrast Test
Orange Stands out Most
Stands out most when the colours are opposite eg: orange against green
Letter Testing
Finally we cut out letters in our 2 colour tones and white and looked at what effect it had on different backgrounds once more.
The white stands out most then the bright orange...
The 2 oranges stand out best against white...
White and bright orange work best against the dull orange
The strip makes the dull N clearer I think
The green and white have the best contrast here
Black Background
When working against black all the colours stand out really well there is a good contrast which makes the colours easily visible and vibtrant.
The split backgrounds effect the letters. The colours are allot bright against the black
Colour Experiment
Finally we stuck all our letters to the window to see what it looked like, when all the letters were stuck up it looked quite spectacular, the colours contrasted really well with each other.
